Forged Spam Headers Causing Spam Problems

Recently we have noticed that Postini has been having some difficulties with a particular type of image spam. In the email headers there seems to be a forged X-Spamshield-Status-DATA header listing: Skipped, authenticated user.

These messages also all seem to contain an unusual unsubscribe message at the bottom of the email. Instead of the typical Unsubscribe link it is an image:

Until anti-spam vendors get signatures in place to stop this spam, we are recommending that putting a content filter in place either on your anti-spam solution or on your mailbox to move messages with the “X-Spamshield-Status-DATA: Skipped, authenticated user” header to Junk.

We do not recommend clicking the image or trying to unsubscribe to these messages as you will just validate your email for spammers.

Hundreds of Thousands of UK Students Move to Google Apps

Google announced today that several more UK universities are moving to Google Apps for their email infrastructure. Moving over to Google Apps will provide these universities with access to a suite of messaging  and collaboration tools including Google Mail™, Google Docs™, Google Sites™ and Google Chat™.  Now that these universities are using the Google suite of products, students will have access to schedule lectures, gather information in a shared location for group projects, organise society events and collaborate and communicate with tutors and peers. It will also familiarise them with a useful tool for their professional lives, as the adoption of Google Apps within UK businesses becomes increasingly widespread.

For more details on the UK universities moving to Google Apps, view the press release here.

As Google Partners we love to see the adoption of Google Apps. If you would like information on how Google Apps can help your organization, contact one of our Google Apps specialists.

SATOS Blacklist Disabled

We have received reports that the RBL (Real Time Blacklists) SATOS has gone down.  My Engineers have completed some investigation and they discovered that the RBL SATOS isn’t dead, but their website is offline. Please see the Google Cache for more details.

However, in the mean time, we are not able to get reliable results from rbl.cluecentral.net so it has been disabled it for now.
